Alan J. Wilkinson has Pop Sonality!
💥Who are you? I am a Manchester-born Photographer, educator, and activist. I began life as the son of a plumber, which meant that the bathroom was always on the change, this constant change was to signify the many years of family struggles and lies. To escape these troubles, I found the medium of photography to focus my thoughts, first I lived the life of the rock’n’roll photographer only to find the boredom of the everyday hindered my view.
What do you do? My practice follows a reflexive route, My current work is exploring the notion of masculinity in the outlaw biker community and exploring the vulnerability within a culture which is viewed at the forefront of hyper-masculinity. I am now looking to create a discussion around homosocial desire, physical connection to one another and the spaces which exude this masculine world.
Influences and inspiration: Over the past 30 years my Influences and Inspiration has solely been about the exploration of the self and its history, whether that be place or the people who have played a key part in my ongoing narrative. Indirectly work by such creatives as the of the photographer, Jim Goldberg, and film directors Jim Jarmusch, have played key roles in my development as an image maker.
