 ¿Qué significa para ti una fotografía? Siempre ha sido cierto que una fotografía no es una sola cosa: su significado varía de un contexto a otro. Una fotografía puede documentar la evidencia; Vender productos; revelar la injusticia; verse bien, capturar la historia o provocar el pensamiento. A veces una foto puede hacer algunas o todas a la vez, dependiendo de dónde y cómo se vea; a veces no está claro qué está haciendo una fotografía (mis favoritas). Una fotografía puede ser algo que encuentras por casualidad, algo que tomas activamente o algo que tu computadora puede hacer usando IA. Es posible que una fotografía ni siquiera necesite "existir" en el sentido típico: puede ser una forma de ver el entorno inmediato: ¿cómo se vería si lo fotografiase?, ¿o eso de allá? Caminando, tiendo a ver como a través de una lente de cámara; enmarcar más que mirar. Esa es probablemente mi relación más personal con la fotografía: la forma en que ha llegado a ocupar mis ojos. Así que tomo fotos cuando las veo, y trato de estar abierto a todas las opciones y accidentes inherentes al medio. Trato de evitar cualquier sensación de que solo hay una forma en que una foto debería ser. Colecciono fotografías, tomo fotografías, aprecio las fotografías de los demás; todas estas cosas son lo que la fotografía significa para mí.

What does a photograph mean to you? It has always been true that a photograph is not any one thing: it varies in meaning from context to context. A photograph can document evidence; sell products; reveal injustice; look good, capture history, or provoke thought. Sometimes a photo can do some or all these at once, depending on where and how it is seen; sometimes it is not clear what a photograph is doing at all (my favourites). A photograph can be something you happen to find, something you actively take, or something your computer can make using AI. A photograph may not even need to 'exist' in the typical sense -- it can be a way of seeing the immediate environment: how might that look if I photographed it? or that over there? Walking around I tend to see as if through a camera lens; enframing more than looking. That is probably my most personal relationship to the photograph: the way it has come to occupy my eyes. So I take pictures when I see them, and I try to be open to all the options and accidents inherent in the medium - I try to avoid any sense that there is only one way a photo should be. I collect photographs, I take photographs, I appreciate the photographs of others -- all of these things are what the photograph means to me.
