✨ Pop Sonality: How do you feel when you see a great find for a photo? How does it make you feel to see what you know is a good motif for a photograph?
Powell May: Yes! Hmm, this is an interesting question, that are usually two scenarios that happen when I’m photographing:
1. There are images that I have planned out in my mind for quite some time, and making them becomes about opportunity (correct lighting, access to the location, etc.). These images have the highest potential to let me down, but when they work it’s a feeling of achievement, like I won a sporting competition.
2. More frequently, I happen across some object or scene and something just clicks in my head saying “just take a picture of this”. Sometimes it’s very apparent what that thing is (a colorful shirt or hair) and sometimes it’s something that I don’t fully understand in the moment but then becomes apparent later in the review and editing process (a subtle alignment or maybe an interesting juxtaposition of the subject and environment that creates subtext). I think these tend to become my favorite images.

Powell May: ¡Sí! Mmmm, esta es una pregunta interesante, generalmente hay dos escenarios que suceden cuando estoy fotografiando:
1. Hay imágenes que tengo planeadas en mi mente desde hace bastante tiempo, y realizarlas se convierte en una cuestión de oportunidad (iluminación correcta, acceso al lugar, etc.). Estas imágenes tienen el mayor potencial para decepcionarme, pero cuando funcionan, es una sensación de logro, como si hubiera ganado una competencia deportiva.
2. Más frecuentemente, me encuentro con algún objeto o escena y algo hace clic en mi cabeza y me dice "solo toma una foto de esto". A veces es muy evidente qué es esa cosa (una camisa o un cabello colorido) y a veces es algo que no entiendo completamente en el momento pero que luego se vuelve evidente más adelante en el proceso de revisión y edición (una alineación sutil o tal vez una yuxtaposición interesante de el tema y el entorno que crea el subtexto). Creo que estas tienden a convertirse en mis imágenes favoritas.
